My adult daughter and I will be spending 3 to 4 nights in Edinburgh at the end of a trip to Ireland (visiting my son/her brother.) We understand the weather will not be ideal but are used to cold, dark, rain as we are from the PNW. And, the timing is set as it fits with daughter's University Schedule. Does anyone have day tour (or tour guide) recommendations for this time of year?
I looked at Rabbie's tour that includes Alnwick Castle but it seems this tour doesn't start until April 1st (we are there until March 31st.) I'm not interested in renting a car as we will be there such a short time and I don't want the hassel of parking in the old city. So, our focus is trying to find a tour or tour guide that offers some day tours outside the city and operates end of March. Any suggestions? TIA!
This Timberbush tour visit Alnwick on Thursday and Saturday- https://www.timberbush-tours.co.uk/our-tours/from-edinburgh/1-day-tour/bamburgh-castle-northumberland-alnwick-winter-adventure
But not Alnwick Castle, as it is closed for the winter. The Castle website just says vaguely March 2025 to re-open but Timberbush (like Rabbies) say 1 April. However you do get to visit Bamburgh Castle instead- a great Castle and have the option to also see the Alnwick Garden- another positive.
Thank you for this information. I will check it out. :-)
Personally, I think you would like Bamburgh Castle much more than Alnwick—at least, I did. I really loved Bamburgh Castle and was less than impressed by Alnwick, although the gardens were nice. And there is a really nice gift shop at Bamburgh! :-)
