Edinburgh airport to downtown best option?

It depends on where you are staying as part of the area where the castle is on a hill where you need to navigate steps.

We took the tram last summer and it was SUPER easy! Just purchase a ticket at the kiosk before boarding. Signage at the airport to get to the tram is very clear. Know which stop you need. If your hotel is not near a tram stop, however, it may not be the best option for you.

We took the tram to the main station and a taxi from there to our B&B. The best option is always a taxi or a driver.

We took the bus because it stopped just a short distance from our hotel on Princes St. Fast and easy with a short slightly uphill walk.

What do you mean by "best," and what do you mean by "downtown" (Old Town or New Town, and what is the exact address of your accommodation)?

I have been stuck in traffic many times around the airport, so depending on the day and time of travel, I would avoid getting a taxi. Take the faster tram if this gets you close to where you want to be.

The tram is best for avoiding traffic and maintains consistent timetable. Very dependable way to view parts of city you may not otherwise see.

The tram only has one line; so unless you are staying within easy walking distance of the stops, it might not be your best option.
