Edinburgh accommodations

Hello - we are behind the accommodation booking game for 4/5-8 2025 in Edinburgh. Do you recommend a b&b, hotel, or other? Three of us want to hike, cycle. Thank you.

We like the Parliament House on Calton Hill. Have a great trip!

I stayed at the Premier Inn on York Place and liked it a lot. It is also very reasonably priced. Another good option that other travelers here have recommended is the Hotel ibis on St. Andrew's Square. Both places are nice because they are in New Town, which has a very residential feel to it; with lots of trees, flowers, and nice cafes and restaurants. It can get crowded and much more touristed near the Royal Mile.

Since there is 3 of you, your best bet is to use booking.com to see what is available for 3 adults as a room for 3 will be harder to find.

Thanks very much for your suggestions. There are some decent deals for roomy airbnbs and the recommended hotels. Bed & breakfast spots give us a chance to meet people. Yes, booking.com is helpful but we prefer to follow Rick’s advice - book directly from the establishment. We decided we will pay a little more for an authentic experience!

These days I'm finding that booking directly is more likely to beat booking.com's rates very often. Not always, but often. it is useful to check, because every now and then the opposite is true, for unknown reasons.

Thank you - I agree. Our experience with booking.com sometimes gave us abetter price than the accommodation offers, but we didn’t get a decent room in the hotel. The better/updated/better-situated, quiet rooms were through the hotel’s direct site for a slight increase. A hotel will also often match a lower price quoted elsewhere. As all travelers in these forums, we appreciate loyalty programs that add to our travel experience and save us money. Booking directly with a property will add loyalty points if one is a member.

We stayed at the Ibis at St. Andrews Square, and we really enjoyed this hotel. The included breakfast is filling and tasty. Location is perfect. We walked everywhere - for sightseeing and to restaurants.

Thank you. Checking with Ibis and the other hotels mentioned in this forum. I’m very appreciative of the forum feedback and experiences shared.
