I'm travelling to Edinburg for a wedding(Americans like me) and a bit of sightseeing. I am a veteran of the United States Cavalry and enjoy wearing my Stetson with regalia to special occasions. Would it be inappropriate or even dangerous to wear it downtown? I'm proud of my service and fully respect other Countries militaries traditions and legacies, especially Scotlands, but I don't want to get stabbed while enjoying such a wonderful city.
I doubt you would get more than a few side eyes if you chose to wear your Stetson in Scotland. Is your Stetson waterproof? And how do you keep your ears warm when the temps are in the single digits (C)?
As for getting stabbed because of your choice of headgear, give me a break - you will be in Scotland, not the US.
