When in late August? The Edinburgh Festivals run during August, with the Fringe (the biggest of the festivals) running till 25th August in 2025. Hotel prices are sky-high during the whole period, triple the normal cost in some cases.

However, if you’re coming after 25th August it’ll be cheaper (although still pretty pricy).

It would help to know a bit about your taste in hotels and your budget.

Grassmarket itself is a noisy bustling area full of pubs and cafes, and there are two Apex hotels right on Grassmarket itself, virtually next door to each other: the Apex Grassmarket and the Apex City of Edinburgh. They both seem very nice in a clean-cut kind of way.

Please note it is EdinburgH (pronounced, approximately, Edinbruh or Edinburra) rather than Edinburg.

I’ve had a look at that area, and you are looking at between $1600 to $4000 (that’s Canadian) for four nights at the last week in August for hotels rated “Good” and above on booking.com.
Edinburgh has great public transport, if your budget dictates a bit less.
Lots of great areas to stay in a little further away.
The Grassmarket is party central in summer, but you might like that atmosphere, especially during the Festival weeks.
