Eating in St. Andrews

We will be visiting St. Andrews for an overnight stay before heading south to Edinburgh in June. Has anyone any recommendation or suggestion for a good-valued and not-so-fancy kind of restaurant? Is it advisable to book a table ahead of our arrival?

I enjoyed eating lunch in the small restaurant upstairs in the golf museum. The food and service were good and I don't think you could beat the view.

Mitchell’s is our favorite restaurant that would fit that bill although the service can be a bit slow. My daughter says the Balgove Larder, just outside of town, but easily walkable, is great for lunch, but a bit expensive for dinner. It‘s always a good idea to make a reservation for dinner. It’s a busy town. Also: there are some great bakeries in town if you have a sweet tooth!

Carol: That lunch place above the golf museum is very handy as we will visit the museum.

DebbieP: We do like Mitchell’s for dinner as it claims to "use the best, freshest, seasonal, local ingredients". Besides its menu looks great for us.

Balgove Larder does not take bookings for neither the café nor the steak barn.

Thank you both so much for your input!

It’s been years, but we enjoyed Maisha Indian restaurant when we were there. Good food and reasonably priced.
