Early morning breakfast in Edinburgh

We are headed to Edinburgh on Oct. 11. Most mornings we have to be ready by 8a.m. for a train or tour. I am trying to find coffee and breakfast near the train station to be ready to leave by 8. All of the places I know don't open that early. I have searched, but 9 seems to be the common opening time. My friemd is gluten intolerant so we need something more than a pastry. Help, please!

We are leaving from and staying near Waverly. I will look at Snac. Thank you.

I would suggest Pret a Manger at Waverley Station which is located at the bottom level of the station. They open at 5:30 am per their website. You can Google the menu.

If your hotel offers breakfast, consider it. Most begin serving at 6:30 or 7:00am during the week, a little later on weekends. You do pay a little more for the convenience but you wouldn’t need to go out and find a place.

Our hotel does offer breakfast for 18-20£ person-a bit more than we want to pay! We are not full-English breakfast eaters and they don't much lighter.

If your room has a small refrigerator, you could always stop at a grocery store like a Tesco and buy fruit, yogurt, pastry, meat, cheese, or whatever, the day before. Then, make tea or coffee if you can do so in the room, or get it from the cafeteria and take it to your room. Less expensive and you wouldn’t have to wander far. Maybe you’ll get lucky and there will be a cafe next door to the hotel which might be the best alternative.

snax in West Register Street was takeaway only when I passed it last month. Half way up the steps from Waverley to Princes Street there is a food court with McDonalds, Subway, Greggs and others.
