Dunkeld/Birnam or Speyside walk

We like walking and love birding. We are ok with distilleries but not mad for them. Just as soon drink at a tavern.

Our itinerary now includes Edinburgh, Skye, Mull/Iona, Glasgow. We know that the Spey Valley has Loch Garten but can't figure how to get to it. We use public transit.

Is anyone willing to weigh in on the decision?

Thanks!

Yes, Dunkeld is lovely and easy to reach. Have you looked at the walking sites to see what you can do? Look at Walkhighlands. The Highland Perthshire site has good information as well. And then there is this nice little site. And Dunkeld has one of my favorite pubs, The Taybank. Music, ale, whisky, food and friendly people. Do you need more? :)

Skye is tough to do with public transit. You might want to think about a day tour....I think that there is one out of Kyle of Lochalsh. You can take the train to Kyle and then catch the tour. Or pick Mull and Iona. You can take the train to Oban and do the three island tour.

Thank you all. We will do Mull and hopefully Iona. And a bit of Speyside with a bit of the whisky. It was a hard choice but Speyside is easier without a car.

Will look for the Three Island Tour. We will stay in Tobermory and do a couple local tours and the islands.
