Hi, Patrick,

If I was a wisearse, I'd recommend Oor Wullie, or possibly Joe or Hen Broon. But I'm not (well, maybe a wee bit!), so what I'd recommend is checking out this website: www.ddtours.co.uk

Dundee is a fairly compact city. Most of the major tourist sites are centrally located: RRS Discovery, the Frigate H.M.S. Unicorn, the V&A Museum, The McManus Art Gallery, Verdant Works Museum, and the Museum of Transport, are all within reasonable walking distance of one another. Broughty Ferry Castle is a short bus ride away, if you don't have a car, and you can take a bus to close by Dundee Law, for a panoramic view of the city.

There is also an Xplore Dundee tour bus, which leaves from Discovery Point, if you don't mind sharing your explorations with other visitors. The bus stops at all of the main sites, and will take you to the top of Dundee Law.

There is also the Mills Observatory, in the Lochee section of the city, and the Dundee Maritime Trail, which starts from near the V&A.

Although primarily known for jam, jute, and journalism, Dundee was at one time the largest whaling port in Britain. After the decline of whaling in the mid-1880s, Dundee was the last remaining port in Britain.

One of the best known of the old whalers was The Baleana. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6OYb_7bhME The Baleana was one of the first ships to operate under steam and sail, which gave her an advantage over the old whalers which operated under sail.

The history of Dundee is fascinating. Although the city is not included in most tourist destinations, it's well worth a visit.

I spen 2-3 months a year in Dundee. (I'll be back on Monday.)

when are you going?

The Xplore Dundee tour bus only runs for a few weeks during the summer. It's an easy way of getting around and is their version of a hop on hop off bus.

There are some walking tours offered but I cant think of the name of the company. I'll find out when I get back.
