Driving from Portree to Elgol

Hi! We will be driving from Portree to Elgol in early August to catch a scheduled full-day excursion to Isle of Canna. The boat leaves the dock in Elgol at 10:00 am. Google Maps says the drive takes an estimated 48 mins in non-peak season and 1 hour & 10 mins in August. Would leaving our accommodations in Portree at 8:30 am leave us with enough time? f not, how early should we leave and how would we typically go about asking for a picnic breakfast from our B&B host?

This will be on the first full length day of our trip and we will have just finished a long drive the previous day from the Edinburgh airport to Portree.

I would allow 2 hours to get there and get parked. It’s single track road from Broadford and will be slow going. Parking in Elgol is very limited. You will likely end up having to park up at the top of the village and walk down to the jetty. The boat won’t wait for you!

I’d be looking for a B&B closer to Elgol for that first night, e.g.in Broadford.

As a B&B owner I would like to think that my guests would ask me now whether a take away breakfast might be available. I would then reply and with details of what I’d be able to offer. I’d then confirm with the guests on check in, to ensure their plans hadn’t changed.
