Wondering if it's too much in one day to depart (self drive) Edinburgh, stop for a quick visit of Stirling Castle, then to Oban, catch the ferry to Mull and spend two nights at Tobermory. Planning to see Iona and Skafa Islands the next day. Or, just stay on Mull and sightsee. Any thoughts as to how much time should be budgeted?
I think that it's too much on day 1. Are you used to driving in the UK?
Say it takes an optimistic half hour to get your car hire sorted, assuming you don't already have a car. It's c an hour to Stirling, then time at the castle. It's then another c4 hours to get to Tobermory, assuming you don't want to stop for photos/take in the scenery / have lunch en route and assuming no wait for the ferry, which runs less than hourly. So that's a full day in transit and you want to spend the following day on Iona etc? No time free on Mull itself ?
Sounds like you are going to be well acquainted with Scottish transport by the end of the trip, but you won't have had any time to sight see.
