Distillery Tour recommendations

We are making our first to Scotland and would like distillery tour recommendations.

What part of Scotland will you be visiting? There are distilleries all over the country, including the islands?
What sort of whisky do you enjoy? Peaty? Smoky? etc

The process of making whisky is the same whichever distillery you visit and so in my experience (I used to be a tax inspector and visited many distilleries as part of my job) the tours vary very little. There are small, independent distilleries and there are the big ones that are parts of global brands. Do you have a preference on small v global?

Our plan is to travel along the west coast and highlands. Oban is a favorite of mine and they are an easy choice. I think a smaller or craft distiller would be more interesting however.
Thank You

If you make it to Skye you might consider a short ferry from Skye to the island of Raasay where you could visit Raasay Distillery

Here in Skye we also have Talisker which is owned by Diageo or you could visit the smaller, independent Torabhaig

Ask for a so called driver's dram if you're driving. Alcohol limits for driving are very low in Scotland.

We visited the Talisker distillery on Skye in June, and we enjoyed the tour and the tasting. We made advance reservations.

We also had a tasting at the Glen Moray distillery. We didn't have advance reservations so we weren't able to take the tour because it was fully booked.

We've been on several and Skyegirl is correct. All the tours are pretty much the same as the process is the same. The big difference is the end product -- and the tasting at the end. The tour in Oban was very good, but our favorite was one at Glenturret distillery where Famous Grouse is made -- can't remember the town. Loved the end product and wound up drinking it at home. For that reason, go on as many as will fit into your plans. You might find a friend for life.

Glengoyne Distillery ,https://www.glengoyne.com/visit-us, this is west coast area just north of Glasgow and not far from Loch Lomond .It is the most southern of the Highland distilleries and their storage area across the road is in the Lowlands, lovely place to visit.
I took a friend from Kansas city there earlier this year for his 75th birthday, and he kept tapping me on the shoulder saying "this is brilliant", The Oak Tree Inn https://www.theoaktreeinn.co.uk/ on loch Lomond is a short drive away and I can highly recommend that place for lunch, visit there and you can walk to the shores of Loch Lomond.

BTW if you are driving most places will give you small bottles to put your tasting samples in so you can take them home and drink them.
