Dinner recs in Inverness & Edinburgh

I'm interested in your personal experience with restaurants in Inverness and Edinburgh please! Inverness is small enough that I don't want to make reservations at a place RS will be hosting us the first night.

These are the restaurants we ate at in Edinburgh in June, and we were happy with all of them, and have some favorites. We made advance reservations at all of them.

Cafe Royal - lovely bar and restaurant in New Town. Food is very good. Sticky toffee pudding is outstanding! One of the best we had on our trip.

Mussel Inn - Specializes in seafood, of course. Ordered buckets of mussels. Located in New Town.

Makar's Mash Bar - Definitely one of our favorites in Edinburgh. Delicious traditional Scottish food. Very friendly staff. Definitely need reservations. A couple came in just ahead of us and were told they had to wait an hour. Located in Old Town.

Ka Pao - Another favorite. Menu has a southeast Asian flair. Try the tasting menu for only 27 pounds per person. It was awesome and a lot of fun.

Dishoom - we had lunch here one day. Very tasty and well prepared Indian food. They take reservations for lunch but not for dinner.
Also located in New Town.

We stayed at Ibis St. Andrews Square and all these restaurants were within walking distance.

We didn't stay in Inverness. Instead we stayed in Nairn, about 30 minutes away. So can't help you with that.

The best restaurant in Inverness by some distance (in my opinion) is Rocpool. You will want to make reservation or you won't get in! Also good is Mustard Seed. There is also a branch of Pizza Express which does decent pizza, salads and pasta dishes.

In Edinburgh we always enjoy Baba

We ate a late lunch at Mustard Seed in Inverness in 2018. I have no idea what we ate, but I remember it was a lovely experience with very good food.

We really love Bertie's Proper Fish and Chips on Victoria Street in Edinburgh. Other favorites in Edinburgh are Hakataya on Rose Street and Chez Jules Bistro on Hanover Street for a nice lunch.
