Dinner in Inverness prior to RS tour start

We will be arriving in Inverness on Saturday, June 18th, coming from 6 days visiting Glasgow, Highlands & Stirling. FYI: Our RS tour starts the next day at 4.
Should we make a dinner reservation for Saturday night, is it necessary? We are considering seafood at the River House.
Also, we want to enjoy some live music at either MacGregor's, Hootenanny or Geillon's, any recs for one or the other? Do we need to arrive early to get a seat or should we plan to eat at one, if it serves dinner?

I would make a reservation. My experience in Scotland is that if a specific place where you want to dine you need to book a table in advance. There are some great restaurants in Inverness. I had a wonderful meal at Rocpool and have enjoyed meals at The Mustard Seed.

We have also enjoyed an excellent meal at The Mustard Seed. We always reserve a few days to a week ahead, especially for Saturday nights. I think you get a better table if you make an advance reservation.

Thank you Pam & Cynthia. The RS tours often host their first night dinner at The Mustard Seed so I’m sure we will enjoy a meal there! Any advice on live music?

When I went to Hootenanny I did not reserve. I did have some dinner and it was a pub dinner. It was good. I was able to see music from my table. You can book for dinner on their site. I have been catching the Facebook Sessions from MacGregors . It has all been during the pandemic so I don't know in person! I do know that Duncan Chisholm played there in a general session which would be amazing to see. If I get to go to Scotland again this summer,, I will likely go to MacGregors. I have a bad knee so I think I am going to be stuck listening to music rather than walking. I do like both activities. :). I had really hoped to hear Elsa MacTaggart in person. She and Mr. Lister were my Covid Companions. But it looks like she is in Denmark during June and July. And can't go as early as the second week of June. :(.
