Daytrip to Glasgow from Edinburgh?

Headed to Edinburgh in August - primarily visiting to attend Fringe shows but will be exploring the city. We are there for 5 nights before renting a car and driving to Oban for 2 nights. We are planning to take the train to Stirling as a half-day trip, but were also thinking of doing a day in Glasgow. Most days we will want to be back around 17:00 or 18:00 in order to catch the shows we will be seeing. Is it worth it and doable to only do Glasgow (via train) for 6-8 hours? If yes, what do you recommend as top sights for a short visit?

We are getting the Two Together rail card; since Scotland has extended Off Peak through our trip, does that mean we can actually use the card on trips before 9:30AM during the week, or is the restriction still in place?

Off Peak Fares are all day, but the 0930 restriction for 2T still remains in force.

Railcard time restrictions still apply as these are set nationally, not by ScotRail I'm afraid.

Otherwise a day trip is very doable between the two cities, the fast ScotRail Express service takes 50 mins a minimum of twice every hour.

If you can wait until after 9.30am (Mon-Fri, no restrictions on weekends/bank holidays), then you can use the railcard discount on an Off-Peak Day Return and come back by any train.

You should dig around Youtube, I recall several vloggers who do Glasgow and seem to enjoy it

Glasgow is definitley worth a trip even for 6-8 hours. It has a completely different vibe to Edinburgh. There is so much to see and do but not knowing what things you like doing/seeing, it is difficult to know where to begin... Cathedral, Glasgow Necropolis, Provand's Lordship, Hunterian Museum and Mackintosh House, Burrell Collection, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Riverside Museum, Tenement House, Botanic Gardens....
