Day trips from Glasgow

Hi all:

My son and his team are attending a week of training with Celtic FC this summer - some of their days are very long, and on those days my husband, other son and I may like to do a day trip.

Thinking of course of going to Edinburgh. Maybe Stirling Castle and Loch Lomand.

Just checking to see if there are any other easy day trips that I may be missing? We probably won't have a car...

Thanks!
Kim

We have taken the train from Queen Street Station in Glasgow over to Edinburgh many times. If you go after 9AM the price is reduced, and if you return after 6PM the same thing. The ride is an hour. There is a lot you can do in Edinburgh on a day trip. We have also gone out to Greenoch on a bus from Buchanan Station. That town is going through a revival. It used to be a great shipping port set in a beautiful location.

Highlights for us in Edinburgh are the museums, the Royal Mile, New Town, and the Royal Botanic Garden. You will see lots of tourists that you won't see in Glasgow. Glasgow is our favorite Scottish city. but Edinburgh is full of history. Oh, we took a bus trip up to Ft. William, that was interesting.

To add to the suggestions above, if going to Ft William takes your fancy, the way to do it on a day trip is by train. This is one of the more scenic rail routes in Britain.

If you are a fan of Robbie Burns you could go to his birthplace for the day. There is train travel to Ayr and takes about an hour to get there.

I also find that it's good to investigate day tours with the tourist information office. They can get to places that trains don't.
