We have two extra days in Edinburgh after our Rick Steves' Tour in October. We are considering a day trip from Edinburgh to Hadrian's Wall. It would be a long day of travel, but it would give us a chance to see this famous historical site, which we probably won't get to on another trip. Has anyone done this tour? Any thoughts? Do you have any other recommendations for a day tour out of Edinburgh? Thanks!
I took this tour last year and really enjoyed it:
I am doing that same Rabbie's tour on Wednesday. If you go to Viator, just as a jumping off point, search for Hadrian's Wall and each listing gives the provider's name and you can then shop directly.
I took the same Rabbie's tour as Carrie. I enjoyed it.
You could get a train down to Newcastle then get tne AD122 bus which runs by the Wall with.stops at all the notable places.
The AD122 ,I think is a £3 journey.
Volunteers at Housesteads unless it has changed) run guided walks on certain days.Good value did it last year
The FB Hadrians Wall walk ,seems to post times and dates.
Different volunteers each day ,it was Allen Woods who led mine, very entertaining guy
I thought it was Vindolanda (or maybe also Vindolanda) where a weekly volunteer led walk runs. I think that one is on a Friday, not seen it advertised yet this year.
Also at the moment every other Thursday there's a free guided walk on the wall at Gilsland, free but advance booking requested to control numbers. That one is new, started in the last few weeks.
And free means free, both are done by passionate locals, for the good of it.
Or you can take the train to Carlisle for the new hourly bus to the wall from there. Due to issues with traveline that service is not on any on line journey planners, which is more than frustrating.
