Day trip from St. Andrews to explore scenery, nature, hike, beauty of Scotland without a car

We will be looking for DAY TRIPS from St. Andrews, Scotland that are doable by public transport, taxi, or hiring a day tour company etc. We will not have a car. We will have already explore Edinburgh, St. Andrews, & Dundee.

We are mostly interested in seeing the beautiful outdoor scenery of Scotland, exploring the culture, and history such as castles, mythical spots, highland coos, wildlife, waterfalls, lakes, etc. A good place to stop for an excellent LUNCH is a MUST as well.

We are NOT interested in museums (although an hour exploring a castle/history is fine) or distillery tours. Does anyone have any good suggestions please? We are 3 adults and a teen...all able to (walk, hike, amble fine). We'd like to keep the driving part under 2 hours.

I look forward to suggestions and feedback from this forum. Thanks in advance!

There may be a day trip from St. Andrews to Glamis Castle. If there isn't a tour operator that offers this, you might be able to arrange it privately. Perhaps ask the host of your St. Andrews lodging.
