Day trip from Glasgow to Broughty Ferry

My husband & I are going to be touring around Scotland in September. We are taking a day trip from Glasgow to Broughty Ferry by train (not renting a car) So far we planning to go to the Broughty Ferry Castle Museum & Barnhill Cemetery. We should be in Broughty Ferry around 11:00. Any recommendations of other things to do there or something we could stop and see on our way back to Glasgow? We like history and castles....my husband's first time to Scotland so I am just guessing that he will like castles :) (we will be going to the Stirling Castle a different day on a group tour)

Glasgow to Broughty Ferry is a long day trip!

However Dundee is on your way there and back and the Discovery Centre is well worth a visit.

Hi, normajean,

The Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum of Design is scheduled to open on September 15th. It's right next to Discovery Point in Dundee. It would be worth a visit if your schedule permits, although there will most likely be lots of visitors there on opening weekend.

The RRS Discovery is well worth a visit. Don't miss the introductory film.

Also, if you have the time, Arbroath is just a little farther up the coast, by train. Arbroath Abbey is definitely worth a visit. The Declaration of Arbroath was signed there in 1320, and is said to be the inspiration for the American Declaration of Independence. April 6th., the date when the Declaration was signed, is now "Tartan Day" in the U.S.
