Any recommendations for what to do with out a car in Tarbert for a day. Sites, sleeping, restaurants??
Thank you,
Debbie
Just to be clear (from a previous post) that this is Tarbert (Loch Fyne) as opposed to Tarbert (Isle of Harris)
One of the first things I would consider is taking the early bus down to Claonaig, then the ferry across to Lochranza (Isle of Arran).
From there there is the bus service round Arran. There is enough time in the day to go round the island with stops in Brodick, and at least one other place, before the 1545 ferry back over, connecting with the last bus back.
I don't know where you are going to next (Arran, Oban, Glasgow, Gourock or Bute), but another possible island adventure is Gigha- bus 926 down to Tayinloan for the ferry.
If it's a schoolday there is also the 449 which serves the actual ferry terminal at Tayinloan, as opposed to the village shop. Each way it is the reverse journey of the school journey. On Gigha see Acahmore Gardens and enjoy this small island- now Community owned.
Or the 926 down to the Royal Burgh of Campbeltown- once a very important whisky centre. Still 3 distilleries there- all of which do tours, a very different whisky to the peaty ones on Islay.
The 926 Glasgow bound will also take you to Inveraray in about an hour for the castle etc.
The best place in town to stay is The Stonefield Castle. Although the website (above) only lists one B and B there are several down by the harbour and along the road towards the old steamer pier (not the current CalMac terminal).- several of which are on booking.com.
The little place I've stayed at before did not survive Covid.
