Daily Virtual Visit to Scotland

I had been planning on visiting Scotland again after a sales conference in Cambridge this month. Well, the sales conference was held virtually from many apartments here and in the UK and was a surprising success. But I still missed Scotland. The next week I found Elsa MacTaggert and Gary Lister. They are on Harris fixing up their cottage as all their gigs were cancelled. Elsa plays a tune of the day every AM and they play tunes and request every Thursday and Friday. Elsa’s tunes are a much better way to wake up than reading the news. You can check up on the virus later. She does post these on Facebook, but they are public so you should be able to find them without an account. Here is her home page http://music-info.elsa-jean-mctaggart.com/Home/

Check out Elsa and Mr. Lister and let me know if the virtual visit helps with ease your missing travel pains, especially those missing Scotland.

Pamela, thanks for this tip — this sounds wonderful.

Glad the conference was a success, we need business to keep going — even though undoubtedly not as fun as getting to go in person!

You might also search out Duncan Chisholm, famed fiddle player. He's doing a COVID Ceilidh each day on Instagram and Twitter.

Thanks, Pamela! Today I would have been spending my second full day on Mull, then headed to Skye, and then to Harris and Lewis. I have just followed on FB and listened to one tune - and this will be a delightful way to remind myself Scotland will be there when I can get there. :)

Edit: Thanks, Skyegirl - just followed Duncan on Instagram!

I adore Duncan Chisholm! His music saw me through MANY a rain delay at Lambert Field in St. Louis back in the day. I could listen to Redpoint forever. It is definitely on my deserted island list. I will have to look for his performances. If you are on Facebook, the beautiful thing that can happen amidst all the annoying and bad things on Facebook, is to have Elsa show up in your video feed daily if you like or follow her.

I'll have to check that out! I just received my flight cancellation today for our September trip to Scotland, and while I was expecting it, it was still a little sad to realize we won't be headed there until at least next year.

Dougie MacLean has also been doing livestream concerts on his Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Dougie-MacLean-158324834220405/). I could listen to him all day!

I started following Duncan Chisholm on Twitter and commented on his latest tune. He responded very nicely. I used to travel to St.Louis a lot for work and often was stuck at Lambert Field trying to get home to Madison. While the thunder storms raged I would listen to Redpoint and disappear back to Scotland.
