Customs and Immigration in Heathrow

Hello fellow travelers. We are taking a BA flight from San Diego and have a layover in Heathrow before reaching our final destination in Edinburgh. Can someone please let me know if we will need to go through immigration and have our passports stamped at the Heathrow Airport, or do we go through immigration upon our arrival at our final destination in Edinburgh? Just curious as we do not have a very long layover and want to make sure we do not miss our connecting flight. Thank you!

Immigration at Heathrow. Customs in Edinburgh.

Just follow the signs for "Flight Connections" once you arrive. You will go through a separate immigration area from the main hall. It is for connecting passengers.

Plug your flight information in here and you'll get step by step directions:

Some people will tell you that you can use the egates. No, there are no egates at the connecting immigration desk.

Thank you Frank and Joe.
Frank: Went on the website, great information- have bookmarked it as a favorite for future travel.
Joe: We are checking in our baggage in San Diego and they will be checked through Edinburgh. I am pretty sure we are traveling on one ticket only with BA.
We are very much looking forward to our visit in early October. Thank you both again!

Went through today. Immigration at Heathrow, but not in the main hall. No e-gate. There was a person but nobody else was there so it took 2 minutes. We also had to go through security again. In addition, our flight from Baltimore didn’t pull right up to the terminal. We parked at a hard stand and had to take a bus to the terminal. We sat on the plane for 35 minutes before any busses arrived to take us to the terminal. At security the machine broke down with our bags right in the x-ray, so it took a little longer. We needed a full hour from the time we landed until we made it through security. On a good note, our bags made it.

Pertinent topic, we are flying from Las Vegas to Heathrow and then a connecting flight to Dublin on British Airways. So from what I’ve read one would continue on to connecting flights. Then we would go through immigration at the Dublin airport, correct?

Dublin is different - it is in what is called the Common Travel Area which operates for the UK and Ireland.

You will go through immigration when you enter the CTA at Heathrow. In addition, for non-UK and Irish passport holders there will be a further immigration check in Dublin.
