Cruising- Cork or Kirkwall?

Planning a cruise to Ireland and Scotland for Sept 2020. There are 2 different cruises. One has a stop in Orkney Islands (Kirkwall), Scotland and the other has Cork, Ireland (Cobh - For Blarney Castle) . The other ports are the same.

Thoughts on which one is a must?

Thanks so much!

Orkney, absolute no brainer for me. 7000 years of history or kissing the Blarney stone.

Hi, jules8700,

I second Unclegus! Just out of curiosity, what are the other ports?

Definitely Orkney. Absolutely fabulous. We were there for three nights and could have easily filled a week.

There are 5 different cruises 4 in Sept and 1 in july.

Ports-
England-
London, Guernsey, Dover, Holyhead Wales, Liverpool

Ireland-
Dublin, Cork, and Belfast

Scotland-
Glasgow, Orkney, Inverness loch ness, Edinburgh,

2 of the cruises have overnight in Dublin or Glaslow and either fly into London or Amsterdam. I plan on flying in 4 days early to either port to explore before the cruise.

Along for the party extras
Paris
Amsterdam

Not all the ports on one cruise but these are the ports to pick from to help determine which cruiseline/Ship

Any places from the list above is a must see?

Thanks so much!

If Liverpool is on the Orkney itinerary I'd definitely do that. We've been to Liverpool three times and there's still things to do. It took til our third visit to do the Magical Mystery Tour!

Personally, for me, if Guernsey is on the same cruise as Orkney that would seal the deal. It would be interesting to get a taste of the Channel Islands and the Orkney Islands on the same trip - two places that are on my bucket list.

However, I have to say that if you have ancestors that emigrated from Ireland, Cobh would be a good stop even if you don't go to Cork. Cobh itself is an interesting coastal town with the Titanic Experience (it was the last port of call for the ship before it sank) and also the Heritage Center that highlights Cobh as the embarkation point for thousands of emigrants. I liked both Cork and Cobh and think they are both worth seeing.

As others have noted it would be good to know which combinations of ports are on which cruise.

Option 1 fly into London. the only cruise with port stop in Orkney
London, guernsey, Dublin, Belfast,Glasgow, Orkney, Inverness,Edinburgh, Paris

Option 2 fly into Paris
London, Liverpool, Dublin, cork ( Cobh), Belfast, Glasgow, Inverness, Edinburgh, Paris

Option 3 fly into London, has overnight in Glasgow
London , guernsey, Liverpool, Dublin, Cobh, Belfast, Glasgow, Inverness, Edinburgh, Paris

Option 4 fly into London, has overnight in Dublin
London, Guernsey, Liverpool, Dublin, Cobh, Belfast, Glasgow, Inverness, Edinburgh, Paris

We will be spending 4 days in London prior to cruise.

Thanks for helping me decide. We like to cruise so we don’t have to haul luggage place to place since we’re older.
