Is there anything of note to. See in Crieff? Would a taxi from Sterling be expensive?
Crieff is an attractive Scottish town which was a Victorian resort and still boasts the Crieff Hydro Hotel, which offers among other attractions alpaca trekking and a Highland Cow experience... It also has a distillery and there is an attractive walk along the River Earn.
The main attraction is Drummond Castle Gardens which are in the middle of the counrtyside about 5. miles south of Crieff.
Stirling to Crieff is about 23 miles. Google estimates a taxi would cost £50-£60.
Hi, Robin,
A taxi from Stirling to Crieff would be around 60 pounds each way. A bus would be a lot less expensive, albeit resulting in a slightly longer journey, time wise. There are several buses daily, operated by Stagecoast East. Our resident transportation expert, isn31c, will be able to provide more details.
Actor Ewan McGregor grew up in Crieff. (He was born in Perth.) I don't know if his childhood home is a tourist attraction. As an aside, he will turn 55 on March 31st.
Wasleys has already provided you with some of the other highlights of the town and its environs.
Enjoy your time in Crieff!
Best wishes,
Mike (Auchterless)
Scottish Citylnk run a direct daily bus from Edinburgh, the 913 (to Fort William) -out at 0840 arrive 1029, back at 1848, arrive 2033
Otherwise it is Stagecoach route 15 Stirling to Perth- every 2 hours Stirling to Crieff, every hour Crieff to Perth- 48 minutes from either Stirling or Perth, the #15 even runs on a Sunday.
Perth and Kinross Council have closed most of the toilets in Crieff, it is now a Community Toilet scheme, using facilities in shops- the Council pay the shops for the privilege.
One of those is in The Chocolate Gallery (as if you needed the temptation), the other in The Square Bar and Kitchen.
There is also an hourly Stagecoach express bus route from Edinburgh to Perth- the route I used last year on a working visit to Crieff- Edinburgh to Perth (I had to add 2 site visits en route, so it took rather longer) to Crieff to Stirling then to Glasgow by local express bus. All on a Stagecoach East Scotland Day Rider at £12/20 (yes I know Crieff isn't in East Scotland but that's how they divide up the country).
