Connecting flghtsAirport

We are flying back from Scotland to the US and most flights have a connecting flight in Europe.
How much time should we allow to change planes at Charles De Gaulle Airport?

Would London, Heathrow be a smoother change for our connecting flight? How much time should we allow there?
Thank you

Do you have the availability of transiting through Amsterdam? Asking because a transit from UK to the US via AMS is a breeze. For Amsterdam you don’t have to go thru passport control or security. You stay in the same non-Schengen area of the terminal.

Last time I travelled from Aberdeen to Seattle (well actually had onward travel to Spokane) my KLM Cityhopper flight disembarked at a tarmac stand. The little shuttle deposited us at Gate D3 and my Seattle bound flight left from D47. Literally a 5-minute walk.

For CDG, I am not sure where your UK flight would come in. What is your departure airline? I’d probably go with 3 hours for either one.

What city in Scotland are you leaving from?

Depending on where you are flying in from in Scotland, to where you are flying to in the US, you may have to change terminals at Heathrow.

If you would share which airport you are flying from in Scotland, where you are flying to in the US, and what airlines you plan to fly, we could give better help.

For Heathrow, If you plug in your flight information at this website it will give you step by step instructions on your connection.

Thanks for the responses.
Just to clarify…We are flying from Edinburgh to San Francisco.
Most flights have a connection in Heathrow or Charles de Gaulle.

There are KLM connections through AMS to SFO from EDI, admittedly with a very ear!y start from Edinburgh.

I can help you with Heathrow..

If you are flying British Airways the entire way, you will arrive at Terminal 5 from Edinburgh and depart from the same terminal. You get to go stay airside and literally just go to your next gate once it is announced. There is no exit immigration nor need to go through security again. (I've done this.)

If you transfer to either United or Virgin Atlantic, you have to change terminals. You can still do this airside through "Flight Connections." However, I'm guessing this would be on separate tickets so if your flight from Edinburgh is late, you could lose your flight to San Francisco.

My suggestion, for Heathrow, is stick to British Airways.

Thanks for the suggestions. Seems like BA with connecting flight is the way to go.

Personally, I avoid Heathrow if I can. Schifol airport in Amsterdam is much easier to transit though, and there should be good options from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. I always try to have two hours to connect so I don’t feel rushed.

We frequently from Glasgow or Edinburgh with BA with onward flights to the USA. As long as you re flying BA all the way your connection is highly likely to be within terminal 5 Heathrow and should be smooth with bags checked to your final destination.
