What is the closest hotel to the Edinburgh airport? Would like to book one night as close as possible in anticipation of an early flight

The Hilton. Next nearest are the Marriott, ibis budget, Ascot Garden & Travelodge, all much of a muchness.

I've used the Hilton several times - the prices ( late fall ) were reasonable , the rooms quite nice , and they provide a regular shuttle to the terminal , which is a very short distance from the hotel .

FYI I've stayed in town and caught early (7AM) flights out of Edinburgh. My B&B scheduled a taxi for me. They even left breakfast outside my door. :) So, if you do want a final night in the city, it is possible.

does any of these have shuttle buses to the airport? Or is public transportation enough? Thank you

The ones at the airport itself will be walking distance, the ones in town public transport or a taxi if you do not have your own car.

how early do you need to be at the airport in the morning.if you are in a central hotel a taxi will get you to the airport in less than 30 minutes for the cost of around £25,The Airport buses start very early if not 24/7 and take about 30 minutes and cost £4 .Trams runs from about 5.20 am and take 30 minutes.
I live in the South east of Edinburgh and the airport is in the North west I can get from my home to the airport in about an hour by public transport.
