With the recent devastating fire at The Glasgow School of Art , this article in The NY Times will alert a visitor to Glasgow to the many other works by Charles Rennie Mackintosh , and his wife and artistic partner Margaret MacDonald Mackintosh - https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/02/travel/charles-rennie-mackintosh-glasgow.html?module=WatchingPortal®ion=c-column-middle-span-region&pgType=Homepage&action=click&mediaId=thumb_square&state=standard&contentPlacement=3&version=internal&contentCollection=www.nytimes.com&contentId=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2018%2F07%2F02%2Ftravel%2Fcharles-rennie-mackintosh-glasgow.html&eventName=Watching-article-click
Thanks for the article, Steven.
We really enjoyed our visit to Glasgow in large part due to the Charles Rennie Mackintosh sites. We were there the day after the first fire (May 2014) and could not bear to even walk past the art school, but saw many other sites.
While we admire his work greatly, we would have to admit his house did not look particularly "livable", especially the furniture. But we did buy a replica of his signature hanging lights when we returned home.
Emma , The BBC documentary looks wonderful , and we have the BBC player on our tablets , but it will only work on the other side of the pond . All is not lost , though , as we are headed back at the end of August , and will be able to watch it then . This one , however , which is on youtube , produced on the occasion of the Mackintosh retrospective at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York , in the nineties , is also a favorite - https://youtu.be/LNrV6vbu4os
I'm headed back at the end of August, too! Maybe see y'all at some of the CRM sites, Steven!
