Starting on July 1, Scotrail will require passengers to either have a paper ticket or activated digital ticket BEFORE boarding a train.
If you don't have one of these, and board at a station where you could have purchased a ticket, you may be penalized by having to pay a higher fare.
The one that will most likely affect tourists is that you will be charged for
an undiscounted single or return ticket. You will not be able to take advantage of any railcard or other discounts at this point.
