Cell Phone Service in Scotland

I am planning my trip to Scotland (late October) and came to the forum to start asking my questions - LOL. I did see one reference to possibly needing a different sim card for my cell phone. My carrier is T-Mobile. I am calling them now but can someone fill me in? Thanks!

T-Mobil should be able to provide you with what you need. However, if you wanted a local ph# to use while there, then swapping sims with the company O2 (I am sure there are others) would help. We did lose service while in the highlands of Scotland but this was back in 2014. Hopefully coverage is better now. Search the forum. TravelingMom has a great thread under technology I think.
Good luck!

Thanks, John! I did chat with TMobile and I should be all set.

We have -- and used in Scotland -- T-Mobile. Our plan includes international calling, as well as unlimited wifi. It worked just fine all over the country. We had wifi in the remotest -- but not all -- places. Nav apps worked great. We got What's App calls that surprised me because of our seemingly remote location. And we got regular calls, too.

In your settings, ensure you're using wifi calling, too. That way, when you're on someone's wifi system, you're making wifi calls at no charge.

Another thing to keep in mind, make certain your phone indicates that you're roaming, otherwise, they'll ding you for the pricey international rate. They did that to us for a few calls, but after we returned home and called them, they took them off the bill.

I'm in Scotland now and have T-Mobile. It works fine. Data is not the fastest but its included. Occassionally, when far from civilization, coverage drops but it's rare.
