Celebrating 60 bday in Scotland with BFF's

4 college best friends will be coming to Scotland at the beginning of September and of course, we want to make the most of our 10-day trip. There is so much to see and do; I am sure we all want to do different things. We arrive and leave from Edinburgh. We are considering 2 days in various parts of the country but I was looking for a "must-do" sort of list. I realize it will differ from person to person, but I seem to be having trouble narrowing it down and was hoping for a starting point. I was also wondering if there are any special events taking place in the first part of September.

Rather than relying on us for 'must does' (and my list could be the list from hell for your group) , why not ask them what they want to do and see?

Hi, Christina,

Your post put me in mind of a story which one of my B&B hosts told me, which sounds plausible enough to be true.

Some college friends from Michigan who stayed at their B&B had travelled to Skye and had three car accidents enroute, including one which totalled an ice cream van which was on its way to a festival. My host asked them if they were friends, and one of the young ladies said "We were."

Whatever you decide to visit in Scotland, drive carefully!

Best wishes,

Mike (Auchterless)

p.s.: The Braemar Highland Gathering is being held on Saturday, September 6th. Reserved seating is sold out, but general admission tickets are still available. Unfortunately, the nearest lodging available at this point is in Banchory, a little over 40 miles away.

Braemar Highland Games on 6 September and Blairgowrie Highland Games on 7 September.

Unfortunately you are a week too late for the Mull of Kintyre Music Festival at Campbeltown- something of a feast of piping and Scottish Music, also guided walks- one or two of which may just happen to pass a distillery.

It could be also the fact that many websites give you the "current" hours without mentioning hours more into the season. It's always a planning nightmare.
