Hi. We are planning a trip to the UK in October and would like to rent a car in Stirling and drop it off a week later in Inverness. Does anyone here have any experience with this about what agency is best to use, or any other good advice? Thank you very much.
I believe that Arnold Clark has a location in Stirling, and I highly recommend them. You can book with them direct or through https://www.celticlegend.co.uk/car-rental/. I've done both and both worked out fine. They are extremely thorough and very easy to work with. They won't try to upsell you with extra things you don't need, and their prices are competitive. I've rented from them twice now—once in Scotland for 2 weeks and once in England for 3 1/2 weeks, and both times everything worked out well.
Thank you so much! We will look into this.
One thing I should have mentioned, is that if you book through Celtic Legend, you do not pay anything up front. Your payment is due when you pick up the car. If you book directly through Arnold Clark, you will have to pay a large-ish deposit. The first time I rented through Celtic Legend and everything was perfect. In fact I got upgraded from a manual transmission to an automatic at no extra charge. Then the next year I booked direct through Arnold Clark, because the price was a bit cheaper through them, and had to pay a deposit. But again, same great service and this time I was upgraded to a Mercedes Class A car from an Economy.
Either way, you will get a car through Arnold Clark, and as I mentioned, they are wonderful to work with.
Do not hire a car from a company called Green Motion!
The internet is littered with complaints about them and one Trip Advisor thread has been running for seven years. The company is legitimate but it employs many sharp practices which people have fallen foul of.
