We will be renting a car in June and wonder where the best place is to rent in Edinburgh. Is it better to pick up a car in the city or at the airport?

Assuming you will be using the car upon leaving Edinburgh , the airport is the wisest choice . As a reasonably large city ( with which you are unfamiliar ) , navigating your way out might prove somewhat more stressful than you anticipate , In addition if you are unskilled with a stick shift , you are more likely to get an automatic transmission at the airport . Heading out from Edinburgh airport is fairly easy .

We rented from Arnold Clark this past summer (actually picked up the car in Inverness but returned it at the Edinburgh Airport). Their lot was a short walk just outside the terminal. Gas is about 9 dollars a gallon, but you'll likely get pretty good gas mileage.
