My son is going to visit his friend who’s studying at Saint Andrews this semester. We have him flying into Glasgow and need to get him to Saint Andrews. It’s a super short visit and I want his time to be efficient so I would like to set up a car hire to get him from the airport to Saint Andrews. Does anyone have any solid recommendations on who to use?
Why not take a bus? They are frequent, with one change in central Glasgow, he'll be there in 3 1/2 hours.
The bus is my back up plan. He flies on Saturday and flies out Monday night. Just trying to maximize his time there.
Or do you mean he flies on Friday and arrives on Saturday?
He arrives Saturday around noon and leaves Glasgow early Tuesday morning.
Another option:
Number 500 airport bus from Glasgow Airport to Glasgow Queen Street Station. (15-20 minutes)
Scotrail train direct from Glasgow to Dundee (no changes.) (1.5 hours approx.)
Number 99 bus from outside the Dundee train station to St. Andrews. (45 minutes.)
While Leuchars is a closer train station to St. Andrews, it would involved a change in trains and then getting the same #99 bus.
Bus 500 as above to Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station then bus # X24 at 45 minutes past each hour direct to St Andrews (from Stance 4 at Buchanan), journey time 2:45.
The bus ends at St Andrews so no chance of getting lost.
These are high quality long distance buses with on board washrooms - the same vehicles as Megabus and Scottish City link use on their Scottish domestic services.
The airport bus arrives at Buchanan on Stance 46.
Turn right off the stance , right again across the concourse where the shops and cafes are, then right again. Stance 4 is clearly numbered
