Can anyone highlight car hire companies for Scotland that they were either very happy with or very unhappy with. We are looking to hire soon for about 10 days hiring from Glasgow then up to the Isle of Skye and return.
I usually use Avis , have booked with them for a month this coming Autumn . Hertz would also be a good choice . Also , while I've not used them , Arnold Clark gets good recommendations .
Avoid a company called Green Motion. They are legitimate but employ many sharp practices which have resulted in lots of complaints about them over the years.
I read good things about Celtic Legend but have never used them myself having no need.
thank you both for your assistance with this.
I am currently using Celtic Legend to book a rental car for 17 days, and have been extremely happy with them. They are courteous, prompt to reply to emails and give information and the price for the Arnold Clark rental car has been very good. It also comes with free GPS, which many do not. And you do not pay anything until you pick up the car (you don't even give them a credit card). I would recommend them, and I know that many people on this forum have used them in the past and been very happy with them.
I'm one of the people here who has used and recommended Celtic Legends/Arnold Clark. Responsive and courteous. They even price matched a lower quote I received from Ryan Air. We picked up and returned to the offsite-Glasgow airport location for which there is a shuttle bus.
If you have a Costco membership you might see what they have. I just checked some prices there and they were good. Only drawback was no option for automatic transmission. For a mid sized manual suv picked up in Edinburgh and one-way dropped in Glasgow - Tues to Fri - it was under $600. This was Enterprise. You'll need a Costco travel acct/pw which is different than using your shopping password. I
We used Costco for a rental car in the New England area a few years ago and were happy with it.
Wow, thanks so much everyone for your assistance. We are currently checking them all out.
I have been using AutoEurope/Kemwel for years, and I have no complaints. They have always been responsive. They are a car rental wholesaler; have rented with Avis, Hertz and Europcar with them. I have reserved a car with them for our upcoming trip to Scotland.
