Are there any Bus routes that go up Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh? Thanks
How would they do that? There is no road.
`
Must be a road. I see a Parking area. There is a Road... It's called Queen's Drive.
Looking at google map, it looks like that road goes round the bottom not up it
Confirming the above. The road runs around the bottom of the hill but only walking trails go up to the top. If you’re in any reasonable shape, it’s doable. But go the eastern route. From generally Dynamic Earth in the map, go towards St. Anthony’s chapel, and then turn south up to the seat. Also looking on the map, to the west you see a section of back and forth squiggles. That’s fine for going down but unless you really want to work out, it’s not ideal for the up part. There are some decent views of part of the crags from there and the views of the city from anywhere up there on a clear day are amazing (if you need encouragement to go).
Thank you, yes I realized the road goes around the bottom. I have looked at the Google map. Seen a parking area. I had just wondered if any buses go on that road. I didn't think they went up to the top. I know we have to hike some of it and that's fine, was the plan but a bus would save a few steps Just thought if we got tired maybe a bus could get us back. . Just researching all ideas.
No there is no scheduled bus which goes round Queen's Drive. They all go along the A1 at Meadowbank/Jock's Lodge, or on the A7 stopping near the Railway Tunnel and the Halls of Residence
Thank you isn31c As usual, you read the question and answer it. So helpful. I have found one that goes by on Duddingston Road that might save us a few steps.
I haven't seen anything close to Holyrood Palace. That might be helpful too, depending on where it goes.
Shelley,
Lothian's route planner is so bad that I've gone back to paper timetables then cross compared to current data-
the bus from Duddingston Road is the number 12- it is mapped here-
https://www.lothianbuses.com/maps-and-times/network-maps/
and this is it's timetable-
https://v5.airtableusercontent.com/v1/15/15/1680681600000/5_Fdu1X_tF6utJoEBX_kGg/ku7DkClVN9vljF6YwnonQ70qjW35okkV-OFdG7OW7B6D0VRVrsUJ6rulYqDBBuET3ahl9sQ2B9nza-4EhPwRgyFmw2q_teNbfA1Lw4mgQ3s/XCVVWD8Z5ciXAITh20HdKP5R5MKmG_5UGb3AqFy996M
You want to be heading in the direction of the Gyle Centre (which takes you back into the City Centre).
I would say time it for 5 minutes after it has left Portobello and you are on the safe side. But it's not exactly frequent.
There used to be 3 routes went to Holyrood House on my paper mapping- the 6 and the 60- neither now exists. And the 35 to Leith Ocean Terminal (now rerouted to a more direct route). It looks like Holyrood House has now been left to the HoHo bus- last time I looked that was run in partnership with Lothian buses!
Call me cynical, but....
There was another bus-the 69- went to Northumberland Drive- that would have been useful. It's gone.
This was a blindingly obvious question, which was an easy one to answer, before post Covid changes to the network.
