Bus Travel in Edinburgh

Buses the best way to get around? Easy to access? Convenient to all parts of the city? Is there a weekly pass for bus system?

I've always used the Day Pass, but there is a weekly pass as well. Go here to see your options.

On our trip earlier this month, we did a lot of walking, but a couple of taxis weren't too bad. The bus worked well, too, but we didn't take more than 2 trips a day, so didn't ever opt for a Day Pass. If it's pouring rain, that can be a bit dreary, but it's a great walking city.

On our family trip, we just paid per ride for the bus and walked everywhere else. We did get one taxi from airport to Inn when we arrived. Also, a taxi on last day in Edinburgh to get to train station. Our B&B owner explained that a one week Pass is not worth it. Plus, I think you can only get the pass at the main terminal downtown - not convenient. Just save your scottish coins and use them for bus fare.

My only experience taking the bus was from Airport to City Center. But very clean buses with Wi-Fi!
They also have a brand new tram system you may want to try. Enjoy Edinburgh!

It depends on where you stay whether or not a day pass is worth it. All it takes is three trips. I found that I used the bus in the AM to get up the hill to The Royal Mile. I then would walk back at the end of the day. Sometimes I walked back. But, if I was going back up in the evening for dinner, that would second trip and I would usually take the bus back in the evening. I thought that £3.50 was a good deal for a day of travel.

I tend to walk a lot during the day touring so often by the end of the day, I am ready for a ride home.
