Bus from Glencoe ski center to Glencoe

Hi,

My husband and I are walking the West Highland Way in September. We couldn't find accommodation in Kinghouse and booked an airBnB place in Glencoe village. I see there is an Ember/CityLink bus from Glencoe Mountain Resort (which is on our way to Kingshouse) to Glencoe village. Is the bus service in Scottish Highlands reliable?

Barring the bus, is it possible to call a taxi from Glencoe Mountain Resort to the village?

Thanks!

Yes the bus is reliable. You would be best booking a couple of seats as it’s a busy service.

There are several taxia which operate from Ballachulish.Check them online - again, I’d contact them in advance to book your transfer rather than relying on the day. They do WHW transfers so I’m sure will be very helpful in advising what your best options are.

Hi again,

On pre-booking the buses, a couple of questions:

  1. How much in advance do these sell out and I should book?
  2. On their website, looks like I need to pick an exact time. Since I am walking, I am not 100% certain when I will arrive. Can we take a bus at a different time if we miss the one we booked for?
  3. I see there are both Ember and CityLink buses from the Mountain resort in Glencoe to the village. Is one better/more reliable than the other?

Thanks again.

City link and Ember are as reliable as each other. No, if you book you have to catch that particular service.
In September it is very, very unlikely that they will sell out. City link may be a long distance bus from Glasgow to the Isle of Skye but with no local bus on many parts of the route is also intended to be for local use. Just stand at the stop and hail the bus down.
The beauty of Ember is that you can monitor the number of available seats in real time, so can decide whether to book if it looks like getting full.
By real time I mean that. So if for some reason the bus does leave Glasgow full but sets down people en route the seat status updates to x many available.
But almost all stops are request only by prior booking online or by voice phone call up to 10 minutes before travel. Dont book and it doesn't stop.
The driver's tablet tells him who is booked (by name) for each stop.
In September I wouldn't hesitate to just book last minute like that when I know my arrival time.

As someone who's spent the last two years hiking about Scotland, I agree with all of the above post.
I will throw in I have hitched throughout Scotland and Glencoe to Glasgow I have done often, be surprised if you would have to wait 20mins

@Richard, I'm planning a trip to Scotland for my elderly mother. I'd like to take her to the Glencoe Valley. It sounds quite easy to take a bus from Fort William to the Glencoe Visitor Center. From there, I was hoping there'd be a way to drive up and back thru the valley stopping at the pull outs. I did send an inquiry to a taxi company in the neighboring community. I've actually considered hitchhiking or asking some random visitor at the Visitor Center. Mostly I jest, but. . .
