Shetland has today (30 January 2026) started a bus fares cap at £2 per journey throughout the County.
This excludes Lerwick to Scalloway, which is currently £1.80.
This is a trial, later in the year it is hoped to expand it to Orkney, the Outer Hebrides, across the Highland Council (HiTrans) area, Moray and Argyll & Bute.
Details beyond Shetland are currently hazy, but if Argyll & Bute is eventually added this should include the Isle of Mull, and the Isle of Islay, and the HiTrans area also includes the Isle of Skye.
EDITED 14 MARCH- The cap has now been extended to Orkney and the Outer Hebrides.
From 23 March it will also apply on the Isle of Skye, across Moray and the Highlands.
