I would be very surprised if many folk on this forum have been to Buckie. you choice is going to be pretty limited as it is a pretty small town. I would check with booking.com to see what is available but it is not a high spot for tourists.

Would this be Buckie on the Moray Firth, or Buckie by Erskine on the Clyde?

didn't know there was one on the Clyde but every day is a school day.My late uncle used to live in Buckie years ago, only ever been there once and that was about 35 years ago, no intention of ever returning.

Based on my map research - it is Buckie near the Moray Firth. I've been invited to travel with a friend who is attending a wedding in Buckie. We will spend the first weekend (of approximately 10 days total) in or near Buckie and then will spend time seeing Scotland. It's my first trip to Scotland (or Europe for that matter) so I'm grateful that you all have helped me adjust my expectations of our first stop.

I haven't been to Buckie, but it's about 10-15 miles from the (small-ish) city of Elgin, where lodging choices are more plentiful. That region is Scotland's warmest and driest, so your chances of having good weather for the wedding are reasonably high!

I can personally recommend another town along the Moray Firth several miles closer to Inverness: Nairn. There are lots of B&Bs in Nairn and I can personally recommend Tali Ayer. See http://www.tali-ayer.com/

On the coast north of Elgin is Lossiemouth, home of the UK's first Labour Party prime minister Ramsay McDonald -- in case that is of interest to you. See https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/lossiemouth/lossiemouth/index.html

Thank you so much for these recommendations. It seems like most first-time travelers plan to see Edinburgh - and we may as well - but I have loved researching the highlands area and won't be disappointed if we spend most of our time there.
