Breakfast

hi,

Our stay in the Portree area does not include breakfast. Where can we get a quick yet hearty breakfast. Thanks.

Your best bet is probably Jans, which is a hardware store on the edge of the village. Relish at Jans. It's very much a locals place, tucked away on an industrial estate, but the cafe is good and the breakfast very good. They are quick because they are serving locals who need a quick snack/breakfast. They are closed on Sunday.

Another option right in the village is Cafe Ariba, which is apparently open at 8am daily including Sundays. I've never had breakfast in there, but it's a decent enough little spot. In fact, I met up with another forum member in there last year!

I can definitely vouch for Cafe Arriba. Very nice cakes and tea! And I remember their menu saying they served breakfast all day.

It's a great place for meeting wonderful people like Skyegirl! (I'm the forum member she met there last year). :-)

You can take your time in either place! They are my best recommendations for Portree (the nearest town/village to where I live).

We need to do that again one day Mardee!

I would love to! I'm hoping to get back to Scotland in the near future! I really want to see Shetland and Orkney, and Skye, of course. I was even thinking about staying on Raasay. I really loved that little island. :-)

Indeed Mardee is correct that Jans Cafe is now closed. A loss mourned by all locals and those canny tourists who'd managed to find it. It's a real struggle to find good, inexpensive places around Portree that are not too busy. In fact we have pretty much given up on the breakfast, brunch and lunch scene in Portree these days. Cafe Arriba is still there, and Gasta at Skye Candles is reliable and does great pizza, but for a hearty full Scottish breakfast at a reasonable price there is nowhere now.

Yes that sounds exactly like Cafe Arriba. It's upstairs above a shop selling yarn.
