Borders itinerary questions

Hi!

So, I’m planning to spend some time in the Borders after my tour ends (end of May), and while it’s hardly written in stone, I was wondering if you might comment/make suggestions. Thanks in advance!

*I’d be based in Melrose

1 day : Explore Melrose/Abbey

1 day: Kelso/Mellerstain House (maybe Coldstream)

1 day: Peebles/Traquair House

1 day: Abbotsford/Dryburgh Abbey/Scott’s View

*I’d have part of the arrival day (from Edinburgh) in Melrose, so I could explore the town that day and then combine the Abbey in another day with something else..

St. Abb’s Head also appeals to me because I love being by the water and I love wildlife...I’m just not sure if it’s feasible by public transportation.

I’d also like to do some horseback riding, so I don’t know how that would affect this itinerary.

*No, I won’t have a car; I don’t drive that much where I live and I definitely do not feel comfortable driving on the “wrong” side of the road. I’m ok taking public transportation or taxis

Thank you !

I just looked online and found several horse riding tours available in Scotland; a few seem to be in the Borders area. There also are buses that may suit your needs. With a little research you may find exactly what you are looking for. I enjoyed the Borders area and the Abbey ruins; it was very evocative. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Hi Kathleen

Thank you - I’ll look into the riding tours! I’ve already started looking into transportation ...I wanted to spend time in the Borders last year, but didn’t have the time. History, beauty, grand homes, ruins, literary associations...what’s not to love?

Thanks again!
