Books on Scotland

What is the difference between Rick's book on Scotland and the book on Best of Scotland? Some times I like to go off the beaten path. Also I will be driving from Edinburgh.

If you are wanting to get off the beaten path and the usual tourist itinerary, then have a look at DK Eyewitness Scotland
As well as all the popular places it includes many places not mention in the other guidebooks and some really are undiscovered gems. There are lots of pictures to tempt you and the maps are sufficiently detailed to help with initial planning.

My other go to source once I've decided on an area to visit is the Undiscovered Scotland website Start with the map page of the area you are interested in and then follow the links. I now use this to plan all visits to Scotland.

From the RS store:

Rick Steves Scotland, the complete guide, offers more coverage of more destinations in a mostly black-and-white format.
The shorter Best of Scotland guidebook focuses on Scotland's top destinations and sights, and is in full color.
