I will be there next week. Can anyone advise me on where I might need a booking to avoid waiting for entry, except at the Castle (where I have a booking) and at restaurants?
I can't think of anywhere - I wad last where last year, and we didn't book anything in advance, including the castle.
We booked the castle, but only did that the morning of the visit. Having a restaurant reservation made life easier, but on a couple occasions we just waited for an open table.
I am a planner. I still haven’t visited the castle, so no bookings there, but I did make restaurant reservations for just about every meal.
On days when I was reserving for dinner after an out-of-town day tour with Rabbie’s or Discover Scotland, I tended to err on the later side with the reservation in case there was heavy traffic or some other delay returning to town. But there generally wasn’t, so I showed up earlier than scheduled, but it wasn’t a problem.
