So I’m a little confused. Are you looking for a B&B on Skye? Or someplace on the mainland near Inverness and/or Oban? Also, it would help to know when you are going. Is this a trip for this year or next?

Are you asking for a place to stay in the Inverness area so that you can sightsee there? The reason I ask is because you can certainly drive from Inverness to Skye in one day. You don't need to overnight anywhere. If you are looking for a place to stay near Inverness for sightseeing, I highly recommend Sunny Brae B&B in Nairn. It's a seaside town about 30 minutes from Inverness. During our stay there, we visited Elgin Cathedral, Cawdor Castle, Culloden Battlefield, whisky tasting at Moray Distillery.

If you don't want to drive all the way from Skye to Oban in one day, you could stay at the Glencoe Inn in Glen Coe. Then I think it's another hour to Oban. The scenery in Glen Coe will take your breath away. Or a closer stop would be Glenfinnan or Fort William.

BTW, where are you coming from on Skye? Portree? That makes a difference too.

I apologize for my vague inquiry. We are leaving Inverness Sept 28 heading to Skye. Hoping to find a place to spend the night close to Skye, then spend the next day on Skye.
Plan to leave on the Armadale ferry Sept 29 and continue traveling toward Oban. Perhaps a place in Glencoe as someone suggested (?). Sorry, and thank you. Perhaps we are planning too much, but don’t know what we would eliminate.

On the outward journey, have a look in either Kyle of Lochalsh, Dornie or Plockton and then take the Bridge across to Skye.

Dornie is about 8 miles from Kyle along a good road and near the iconic Eilean Donan CAstle.

Plockton is about 7 miles drive along narrow slow roads, but the scenery will more than make up for that! It ius a lot smaller than Kyle but with a lot more character than Kyle of Lochalsh. It would be my choice to find accommodation. However choice may depend on where has vacancies...

wasleys has a point. Skye itself it usually booked up for months ahead of time, so wherever you stay, I would suggest booking accommodations as soon as you can.

If you run into a bind, this Facebook group has last minute listings of places to stay on Skye. https://www.facebook.com/groups/808837999200215

BTW, my mom was a K-12 art teacher. :)

Also look in Kyleakin- it is on Skye, just over the Skye Bridge, and was the old ferry port from the Kyle of Lochalsh (pre bridge days). Now it is rather overlooked by people coming off the bridge. There are several B and B's in the village, so may be worth a look.

Inverness to Skye Bridge is about 2.5 hours so why not aim for Portree to give you a head start on Skye the next day? Then on the way to Oban you will find the most choice around Fort William, about 3.5 hours drive from Portree. If using the ferry to Mallaig you will need a reservation.
