My wife and I will be in Edinburgh in early June on her birthday and I was thinking about a surprise for her, like maybe a balloon ride, or a limo tour. (I'm not planning to rent a car for the Scottish leg of our trip.) Anyone have any suggestions?
Take her to a restaurant called "The Witchery", it's close to the Castle in Edinburgh and it is a wonderful experience, but you must get reservations ahead of time or else you may not get in. If you want more than a meal for her, consider taking the train to Sterling, Scotland and visit both the castle and the William Wallace Memorial and then eat lunch at the Portcullis Pub that is right next to the parking lot of Sterling Castle (great atmosphere).
Visit Britannia out at the docks and have afternoon tea onboard.
Thanks for the suggestions. Tea on the Britannia sounds good: I took her for birthday tea at the Ritz in London on a previous trip. Another year at Yosemite, we lunched at the Ahwahnee Hotel and then drove to Carmel. (She loved them all.)
I am going to add a second vote for The Witchery dinner. I have always wanted a special dinner there.
Your balloon ride sounds intriguing as well. It looks like Google has a few suggestions. Here is what VisitScotland suggests.
