Hi!
My husband and I will be visning Scotland in June. We were hoping to rent bikes and bike in Cairngorms National Park for 2-3 days. I see Aviemore as a potential base but was not sure if that was the touristy/obvious option. Does anyone have a suggestion for another town to use as a base that we can access via public transportation (we will be coming from St Andrews), rent bikes in, and start gravel (preferred) or road rides from ?
Try Ride Scotland in Boat of Garten. From Aviemore you get there on the 37/X37 Aviemore to Inverness Bus (or far more fun the Strathspey Steam Railway).
Boat of Garten is a rather nice little village.
It looks as if the bike shop in Grantown has closed- which was my first thought.
There also seems to be a company called Bothy Bikes in Kingussie- a town with a railway station ten miles or so south of Aviemore. To my taste, a nicer town than Aviemore, but then everyone's tastes are different.
Disclaimer- I'm not a cyclist so can't advise on routes.
Cycle Highlands in Ballater may be of interest.
