Looking for advice on the area north of Inverness. We'll be staying in Nairn, and then taking a ferry to Orkney. I've left one night in between Nairn and our booking in Kirkwall. I'm wondering if it makes more sense to stay in Nairn for a second night so we can explore the glens west of Inverness and then north to the ferry from Gills Bay, or to try to find lodging closer to Gills Bay the night before our sailing. Our interests are bird watching, walking, and historic sites.
Thanks for any input!
According to Wikipedia Gills Bay has a lot of Marine Mammals on and near the Shore. If your interest leans to Historic I would stay in Nairn. Check Scotland National Trust for sites to visit. I recommend Castle Brodie which is a wonderful Victorian fantasy.
