I'm planning to walk the West Highland Way trail in Summer 2024 and am looking for the best walking tour group for a solo woman traveler? I would prefer walking in a small group. Thanks!
The first thing that comes to my mind is HF Holidays, a UK member-owned cooperative that focuses on guided hiking both in the UK and around the world. In the UK, they own or lease large country houses which have been converted to hotels for their operations. One of these in the Scottish Highlands will serve as lodging the last 4 nights of the trek; the earlier nights will be in hotels along the way.
We have enjoyed several of their 3- or 4 - day trekking holidays with them at their country houses in the UK, and are signed up for another next year, plus a week hiking in Abruzzo in Italy. We have found their accommodations, food, and guides to all be excellent, and the camaraderie of the other guests is a highlight. One need not be a member to join one of their guided tours, although there is a small supplemental fee. Since they are a non-profit cooperative, their tour prices are very reasonable.

The Trip Notes have the complete itinerary and more information:

Two more companies I found, but have no experience with:

And many more will offer self-guided tours, but that is not what you asked. I think you are wise to choose a guided tour for this trek in particular, as parts are quite rugged, and the weather can make visibility and way-finding a bit tricky in places. At least so I have heard.
We did a small portion on our own from a base at Bridge of Orchy, and it was beautiful. We were fortunate to have perfect weather, as the people at the hotel pointed out on several occasions.
I'll second Lola's recommendation of HF Holidays. We stayed at their Glen Coe guest house when we did a 4 night self-guided trip to the Highlands. Our stay happened to coincide with the West Highland Way group's stay and my husband and I shared our meals with the group. The food and accommodation were excellent and although we were self-guided, the guides were more than happy to share their insights with us.
Thanks to both of you for the recommendation! I'll check them out!
When I looked at their availability on 2024 dates for the West Highland Way, it said “call to enquire” for every single date, Even though only one of the five trips appears to be fully booked. I suspect this is because they may only do shared rooms, or require a single supplement for solo travelers who want a private room, and want to discuss those options with you. Their phone number and office hours are on the webpage; you will have to adjust for your own time zone if you are in North America. For me, on the west coast in Pacific time zone, that means calling early in the morning (7 or 8 am). They do not take calls on weekends.
Which company did you chose? We are also on west coast and looking at going in 2025.
