Best Scotland Airport to fly into

Planning a trip to Scotland the end of April. Wondering what is the best airport to fly into if we're planning a two week trip to Scotland
Any suggestions as we're planning on visiting Edinburgh, Glasgow, Isle of Skye and the Highlands.

Glasgow or Edinburgh.....whichever gives the best flights for your purposes.

Are you flying direct from the USA.

Some airlines don't give you much choice. IcelandAir only uses Glasgow, while British Airways will go to almost everywhere (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness and more) but you have to connect through LHR which is a madhouse for security and immigration.

Glasgow and Edinburgh are almost interchangeable since they're only an hour apart. Picking one or the other depends more on your itinerary and bucket list. The cities are very different.

In 2022 flying British Air, my original itinerary was to fly into EDI and out of GLA. A few weeks before my trip, they canceled my EDI flight and offered me GLA. While I was in the country, they canceled the GLA flight and offered me EDI, but otherwise the details of the trip barely changed.

If you can’t get a direct flight into one or the other, just take the one that doesn’t go through Heathrow. It’s a nightmare to navigate. I flew into Edinburgh and out of Glasgow, going through Amsterdam both times. It’s a nice, easy airport to navigate.

Since we don't know exactly where you are flying from, I'll suggest you look at a route thru Amsterdam in to/out of Edinburgh or Glasgow, depending on your preferred airline's routes.

I fly from the Inland Northwest so go from my local airport at Spokane to Seattle and try to get one of the Delta flights (my airline of choice) that goes directly to Europe without having to change planes on the US East Coast. In August I was flying in to Aberdeen (to connect to Orkney) and decided to try going thru Amsterdam. Wow, it worked great! Since UK is not in the Schengen Zone you stay completely in the International concourse/Terminal and don't have to go thru Immigration there. It was so easy and stress free. Immigration was at Aberdeen and it was very uncrowded - just my KLM CityHopper plane with about 50 folks on it.

I, too, would avoid Heathrow if you can manage it, just because it's so busy.

I think I have a slightly different perspective on LHR since I connect through there 2 - 3 times a year. Although you seem to walk forever from the jetway to customs, the Brits have this international travel stuff wired.
We are going to Scotland this May and will fly British Air from Houston to Heathrow to Edinburgh and return from Glasgow to Heathrow to Houston.

Grew up in Scotland, live in the US now. Mostly we fly into Edinburgh (I've never been to the Glasgow airport) but recently air fare into EDI from the US has been very high so we have flown into LHR. The presence of many more airlines and larger wide-body planes makes the fares often quite a bit lower, better chance of upgrades and so on. I'd do that and drive/train to Scotland vs connecting in a European hub like AMS, CDG, FRA.
