Will be in Inverness area in early June. (Also in Edinburgh area too)
Family of 4. Children in early 20's. Looking for professional photographer to take family pictures in scenic outdoor (mostly) settings.

If you don't get any responses with personal experience you should try searching on the Visit Scotland site. This will at least give you the names of some professional photographers. Some of them are offering travel photo workshops, but then they also have their day job. :) I entered photographer and portrait in the search box. You can then check out their web sites to see if you like their work. Claire Ball, Rich Dyson and Lever Photography were near the top. You could always email them and if it's not their cup of tea, they many be able to refer you to someone.
Also, consider posting on TA for local input. Locals may have better info on this type of request. You're going to see a lot of wedding photographers. :)

The best is following Pam's advice or going via Auntie Google and then searching the reviews.
I can recommend the photographers who did the ones for assorted family weddings etc, but that is very specific to my area of Glasgow and the west....

There are at least a couple of websites -- flytographer and shootmytravel -- that specialize in enabling travelers to find photographers in whatever location they want. I haven't tried them myself, but may be worth a look.
In choosing a photographer, look at their samples and be critical. Remember that what they show as their samples is what they consider their very best work. In family photos with an outdoor setting, you want to consider lighting and composition as well as how comfortable, relaxed and happy everyone looks. Some photographers are better than others at putting their subjects at ease.

The travel photographers were interesting to check out. They are pretty urban with pix in Edinburgh or Glasgow. I think if you're looking for that highland pic you might have to look further appeal. interesting to see the pricing on one at $250 for a half hour shoot. They are based out of Canada, but I wouldn't assume that they are quoting Canadian $$!
If you go ahead with this it would be really interesting to hear back about your experience.
